MAREMA activities took place in all four INTERREG IIIC zones and the objective was to exchange experiences on regional management. The project dealt with different types of regions, namely:
Cross-border regions, regions with dominant restrictions, regions (re)building regional management structures. The overall objective of the project was to build new or improve existing structures of RM and to develop best practice for three types of regions in and outside the E.U.

The objectives of the project

The general objective of the project was to benchmark best practice in regional management by building new or improving existing structures in regional management. This would correspond with generating more efficient regional management structures for the benefit of the region in three different types of regions throughout Europe.

They also aimed at identifying, how cross-border decisions were authorised, how areas with dominant restrictions could contribute their share to regional development and how regional management as a co-ordinating institution could ease the regions ways to developmental success in the enlarging EU.
What were the outcomes of the project?
