Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 – Theme 1: Economic Development, Enterprise Development & Job Creation

LEADER closed call for Sub Theme 1: Rural Towns.

Mayo Local Action Group for LEADER invites Expressions of Interest of (EOIs) under Objective 3 of the Local Development Strategy to support the regeneration of Rural Towns in County Mayo.

Funding under this call will be allocated to projects that support the enhancement of rural towns and contribute to making them a more attractive place to live, recreate and do business.

Attracting people and investment to town centres is key to the sustainability of rural areas. There are opportunities through LEADER to exploit our recovering economy to secure the regeneration of our towns and villages.                                

Overall budget:  €276,520.00                       

What can be funded?

  1. Streetscape enhancement.
  2. Tidy Town initiatives.
  3. Maintenance/Restoration/Upgrade of built environment in town & villages.
  4. Development of recreational spaces (excluding playgrounds).

Villages must have at least two of the following:

  1. School
  2. Shop/retail outlet
  3. Post Office
  4. Pub
  5. Church
  6. Community centre

Note: This does not apply to the Islands

What cannot be funded?

Projects with other sources of available funding.

Work that falls under the remit of Mayo County Council.

Who can be funded?

Community and voluntary groups and organisations in rural towns and villages.  Group of private sector interests but not considered secondary economic beneficiaries.

Application process:                     

There is a two stage process:

Stage 1: Complete the “Expression of Interest” form to determine if your proposal meets the objectives of the County Mayo Local Development Strategy and complies with the LEADER Programme guidelines.

Stage 2: Applications that are successful at Stage 1 will be invited to submit a full application with the required supporting documentation.

Invitation to application stage does not mean that you will be awarded grant aid as this is a competitive process with limited funding.

Note: A score of 65 is required to progress the project to approval stage. 1-6 must score 50% under each individual assessment criteria.

 

Proposed timeline for application process:

Stage 1: EOI

February 16th: Rural Towns call opens:

Tuesday 28th February: Information event in Castlebar Tennis Club at 8:15pm.

March 31stClosing date for EOIs

EOI applicants informed of outcomes

 

Stage 2: Application Form

July 31st: Closing date for application form

Evaluation Committee Assessment

Pobal article 48 checks and LAG decision

Contracts issued to successful Applicants

If you are interested in applying for this funding, we strongly encourage you to contact your local LEADER Implementing or Animating Partner to have an informal chat about your project.

However, this is optional and you can submit an Expression of Interest without contacting us first.
